Our Consortium
Mama na Mtoto is comprised of East African and Canadian partners. Research is led by the Catholic University of Allied Health Sciences (CUHAS) in Mwanza, Tanzania. Implementation of activities is led by Agriteam Health Tanzania in collaboration with Regional and Council Health Management Teams in local districts. The University of Calgary provides overall leadership and technical support together with partners Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Uganda), Save the Mothers and the Canadian Paediatric Society.

Our Team
Mama na Mtoto has a team of staff, advisors and volunteers. Leadership is provided by Principal Investigator Dr. Dismas Matovelo, Director Dr. Jenn Brenner and Field Manager Tanya Salewski. Coordinators work with district health teams to oversee research and field activities with the support of local staff. Joint expert teams (Tanzanian-Ugandan-Canadian) advise on technical issues, curriculum, strategic direction and research. They also provide training and mentorship. These teams include faculty and clinical staff from partner institutions, field team leaders and regional and district health managers.
Our Governance
Mama na Mtoto is overseen by management and steering committees. These committees involve partner and community representatives and meet regularly for planning, strategy and decision-making. Our progress is tracked using internal and external financial audits, process evaluations and performance monitoring systems. Alignment with national strategy is ensured through regular meetings with the Tanzanian Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCGEC) and the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG/Tamisemi).
