Where We Work

Mama na Mtoto works with communities in Mwanza Region, Tanzania. The city of Mwanza, known for its unique rock formations, is adjacent to Lake Victoria and located 136 km from the West Entrance to Serengeti National Park.

Our activities aim to improve women and child health in Misungwi and Kwimba Districts, which have a combined population of 843 368 people. Misungwi town is located a 45 minute drive south of Mwanza city and Kwimba town is another 45 minutes south.

Misungwi and Kwimba are amongst the rural districts with the highest rates of death for women and babies in Tanzania. They are priority districts for maternal and child health programming according to the national government. For a map of the health facilities in these districts, see here.

Mama na Mtoto partners are also involved in initiatives for women and children in Mbarara and Mukono, Uganda. In Canada, Mama na Mtoto partners promote engagement in global health with our offices in Calgary, Alberta.
