Where We Work

Mama na Mtoto works with communities in the Mwanza Region of Tanzania. Adjacent to Lake Victoria, Mwanza city is known for its unique rock formations and is located 136 km from the West Entrance to Serengeti National Park.

Misungwi and Kwimba Districts, with a combined population of 758,116 people, are home to Mama na Mtoto activities. The Misungwi town centre is 45 minutes south from Mwanza city, and Kwimba town centre is located a further 45 minutes south.

Both rural districts have been identified by the Tanzanian government as priority areas for maternal and child health programming. In these areas, maternal and newborn deaths are amongst the highest in the country. Detailed maps showing local health facilities with active Mama na Mtoto programming can be found here.

Mama na Mtoto partners are also involved in maternal, newborn, and child health programming in Mbarara and Mukono, Uganda and public engagement activities in Calgary, Canada.
